      How do I get connected with a counsellor?

      Our drop-in intake session on Fridays and Sundays from 12-2 PM at our Newton location provide the fastest access to a counsellor. If you can't make it to one of our intake sessions, send an email to counselling@mffs.ca or text 778-321-3054.

      Is there a limit to the number of low-cost counselling sessions I can attend?

      No. We believe that everyone should be able access quality mental health services for as long as they require them.

      Is there a difference between the $5 services and the $38 services?

      Our full cost services are delivered by Registered Clinical Counsellors, while our pay-what-you-can and $5 services are delivered by counselling and social work interns. All our interns are qualified and supervised by registered counsellors.

      What happens if I miss an appointment?

      We ask that all clients provide a minimum of 24 hours cancellation notice or missed appointment fees may apply. Multiple missed appointments may result in cancellation of services. Such policies ensure that those needing services continue to be seen in a timely fashion.

      Why should I donate to MFFS?

      1 in 5 Canadians will experience a mental health problem this year. We need to address this crisis, but mental health care is simply too expensive and inaccessible. MFFS is a registered charity that aims to make counselling accessible to all who need it and your donation will help us do that.

      I can't afford to donate right now, but I want to contribute to MFFS. What can I do?

      There are lots of ways to help MFFS besides donating! One great way to support us is to order your groceries from SPUD.ca/fundraising to donate 25% of your purchase back to MFFS. If you're interested in volunteering, email info@mffs.ca to discuss possible opportunities. Other ways to help out include spreading the word about our services and donating office supplies so we can lower our operating costs.

      How do I participate in your SPUD.ca fundraiser?

      Go to SPUD.ca/fundraising and select which fundraising box you'd like to purchase. When you proceed to checkout, enter the promo code FUNDRAISING and select "Moving Forward Family Services" from the drop-down menu to donate 25% of your purchase back to MFFS. You can also purchase gift cards from SPUD.ca/spudcards to donate 10% back to us!

      When is the deadline to apply for a practicum placement?

      There is no deadline; we accept applications on a rolling basis. Once you are accepted, it will take around 2 weeks for MFFS to prepare for your placement.

      Do I have to attend an institution with which MFFS has a pre-existing relationship?

      No, we accept interns from post-secondary institutions all across Canada and the world.

      How long are practicum placements at MFFS?

      We do our best to accommodate you and your school's internship requirements, so internships at MFFS are flexible. Some interns are only with us for 6 months while others may be with us for 18.
